University Libraries follows the Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative (FADGI) guidelines for digitization. FADGI defines four quality levels for imaging, from one star to four star. Our goal is reach the four star level. Images created to a four star level are of the highest quality and are suitable for almost any use. In addition to technical specifications, we also aim to:
- create an accurate, unedited representation
- leave a border space around scans so that the edges are seen
- straighten items at the time of capture
- position items on the scanner so that they are flat
- position items in the correct lighting direction to minimize shadows
- scan once, the right way
