Many of the books in Eiche’s library were published by the Limited Editions Club, which was founded in 1929. The club printed approximately twelve editions of classic literature each year in small runs limited to 1500 subscribers. These editions featured original lithographs, engravings, woodcuts, or watercolor illustrations that were commissioned to accompany the text. They were printed on specialty papers and bound with distinctive fabrics. Each book was numbered and hand-signed by the illustrator or book designer.
The Eiche Collection includes Limited Editions of books by authors including Albert Camus, Charles Dickens, Victor Hugo, Edgar Allan Poe, Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Walt Whitman, Oscar Wilde, and others. The books in this collection might interest researchers of literature, book history, art, and graphic design.
