Digitization Services: Digital File Conversion

The University Libraries’ Preservation, Conservation, and Digitization staff members can assist you with converting your file(s) from one file type to another.

What file types are handled?

  • TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) to any other file format
  • PNG (Portable Network Graphic) to JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)
  • PDF (Portable Documents Format) to a Microsoft Word document

How can I do this?

Send your request, along with the file, to digiconversion@psu.edu. Make sure to indicate the type of file you need and when you need the file in its new format.

Who can use this service?

Any member of the Penn State community, at any campus location, is welcome to use this service.

How much does it cost?

View the Fee Schedule for cost information. Note that we do not charge for an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) request.

What are some examples?

  • You are a student with an original TIFF file, but you need a JPEG for your web-based course project.
  • You are a faculty member who would like to convert a PNG file to a JPEG for your course website, so that your students experience optimal download of your site.
  • You are a staff member who needs to edit a report, but the only version you have is a PDF, and you need it converted to Microsoft Word to update it.
