About the Collection
The collection includes a cookbook compiled in Camberwell, Surrey between 1770 and 1846 as well as Christian Barclay’s recipe book, 1697-1723. The recipes include transcriptions from printed sources (including those written by the bestselling cook Hannah Glasse) and unpublished recipes, from British and Scottish cuisine. Christian Barclay’s recipe book includes indexes to the first and second of three parts concerning medicinal remedies, cooking recipes, and cloth dying of various colors, and contains two pages of marriage and birth records of her children with Alexander Jaffray. Recipes from these two works are part of the annual Great Books Bake Off.
