Digitization Services: 3D

3D imaging and printing services support innovation in teaching and learning by providing a platform for design thinking and rapid prototyping.

What 3D services are available?

  • Scanning:  Scan an object to create a 3D model or print
  • Modeling:  Build an object from a scanned object, other 3D model resources, or something you’ve designed
  • Printing:  Print 3D physical objects from a digital file

How can I do this?

At University Park, visit the Maker Commons, located in University Libraries’ Knowledge Commons, or other Maker Spaces on campus. Several of our campus libraries offer 3D services. Visit the 3D LibGuide for campus locations and service offerings.

Who can use this service?

Any member of the Penn State community, at any campus location, is welcome to use this service. Please note that priority is given to student projects/assignments.

How much does it cost?

Services are free to all members of the Penn State community, at any campus location that offers this service.

What are some examples?

  • You are a student at a Commonwealth Campus, and you need to make a 3D scan of a physical object for a class project assignment
  • You are a faculty member, and you need to create a model of a CAD drawing to present to your students during class
  • You are a staff member, and you need to 3D print an exploratory idea to present at a conference
