Beautiful maps synthesize the art, science, and technology of cartography to explain our world. This collection of outstanding cartography is a source of inspiration for anyone with an interest in mapping. It is especially important to me because I helped launch this atlas as a board member of the North American Cartographic Information Society (NACIS) and helped launch subsequent editions as NACIS president. Today, the Atlas of Design is a highly regarded series celebrating excellent maps.
