Pattee Library Carrel Application

Fields marked with a * are required.

What are library carrels?

  • Carrels are lockable compartments found on desks located in the central stacks of Pattee Library.
  • Library carrels may be used to store research and study materials.

Who can request carrels?

  • Due to demand, carrels are reserved for students, University Scholars, and faculty.

Carrels are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Indicating a location preference does not guarantee availability. Applicants should receive a carrel assignment by email within two weeks.

Study Carrel Policies

  • While there is no charge for carrel use, we do assess a $50.00 replacement fee for lost keys.
  • Please remember to renew your carrel every semester. Carrel keys will appear on your library checkouts list and can be renewed twice through My Library Account. If you do not renew your carrel, you must return your key to the main circulation desk, first floor Pattee.
  • Please check out all library materials to your account at a service desk before storing them in a study carrel.
  • Periodicals and reference items should never be locked in study carrels.
  • Please do not store food or drink in or around study carrels.
  • Do not store valuable personal items in carrels. The library is not responsible for the security of items stored in library carrels.
  • All study carrels are subject to routine search by authorized staff to ensure compliance with these policies.
