Electronic Reserve Request Form

TERMS OF USE OF ELECTRONIC RESERVE SERVICE:
  1. GENERAL TERMS OF COURSE RESERVES SERVICE

    All materials will be placed on reserve at the request of faculty only for the noncommercial, educational use of students. Materials placed on Course Reserve will be made available for students and faculty only during semesters when the requesting instructor is teaching the course, and will be removed after the course is no longer in session.

  2. ELECTRONIC RESERVES AND COPYRIGHT

    Copyright policy for electronic reserves is considered in compliance with U.S. Code: Title 17, Section 107 governing Fair Use. Specifically, any reproduction, either photocopied or electronic, of copyrighted material that is placed on Course Reserve at any Penn State University library, will conform to the following:

    • Book excerpts placed on electronic reserve may not exceed 15% of the total pages in the book. This limit is cumulative over the course of the semester.
    • No more than two articles from any single issue of a journal may be placed on electronic reserve over the course of the semester, unless those articles are available through a library-licensed database (ProQuest, JSTOR, ScienceDirect, etc.) or on the open Web.
    • Materials placed on electronic reserve for subsequent or repeated semesters for the same course and instructor may require copyright permission. Copyright permission will be sought by the Course Reserves staff.
  3. COMPLETING YOUR E-RESERVE REQUEST
    • READINGS THAT ARE NOT AVAILABLE FULL-TEXT ONLINE
      • University Park and World Campus instructors: Photocopies/files of all readings not available full-text online must be supplied to the Lending Services Desk, 105 Pattee Library. Processing time: 3-5 days.
      • Commonwealth Campus instructors: Please contact the Course Reserves staff at your campus for information on whether or not photocopies/files are required and processing times.
    • SENDING ELECTRONIC FILES

      Electronic files such as PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoint slideshows, etc. may be sent via email attachment. To send files of requested readings to your Course Reserves staff, please follow these steps:

      1. Choose the option to receive a copy of your request in the Contact Information box at the top of the following form.
      2. When you receive the completed request in your email, open it and use "Reply All" to start a new message.
      3. Attach the files to that message and send.
    • READINGS THAT ARE AVAILABLE FULL-TEXT ONLINE

      Readings that are available through library-licensed databases or on the open Web may be requested. If requesting documents on public websites, please provide URLs in the fields provided. Photocopies are not required for documents available online. Processing time: 2-3 days.

    Note: All processing times are approximate and will vary depending on the time of the semester, the amount and availablility of material, and other factors.
