Penn State University Libraries - A Place for All

Penn State University Libraries is committed to disrupting racism, hate and bias whenever and wherever we encounter it and to creating the most inclusive and diverse community that we possibly can. We reject the actions and messages of racism and embrace the message of anti-racism.

While we are a place for everyone, we will not allow acts of intolerance and hate to diminish the rights and safety of others who visit our spaces and use our resources and services. It is time for us to do more in support of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Library Faculty Organization (LFO) Resolution on Anti-racism

Penn State University Libraries holds a unique position in the Penn State community, residing at the nexus of intellectual discovery, teaching and learning, and research. The University Libraries​ seeks to connect the Penn State community and citizens of Pennsylvania to the world of knowledge and new ideas.​ Its foundational values speak to supporting equity of access, diversity and inclusion, ethics and integrity, and empathy. These values stand in direct opposition to systemic racism, white supremacy, and all forms of discrimination. As Libraries faculty, we are committed to using our privilege to speak out against these issues.

University Libraries Civility Statement and Guidelines

Within the University Libraries, civility comprises a conscious demonstration of mutual respect – for people, for their roles, for their knowledge and expertise. Civility requires cooperation, tolerance, acceptance, inclusiveness, kindness, courtesy, and patience. It is expressed not only in the words we choose, but in our tone, demeanor, and actions. All members of the University Libraries community are responsible for and expected to exemplify and promote civility.

ACRL Diversity Alliance Membership

logoThe University Libraries is a charter member of the Association of College & Research Libraries' (ACRL) Diversity Alliance, which is committed to increasing the hiring of underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. It also supports opportunities to create multi-institutional collaborations to enhance diversity and inclusion in the field of librarianship and at each institution.
