Penn State University Libraries - Book/Media Reserve Request Form

Electronic Reserve Request Form

Please read the following Terms of Use, then click on the blue box at the bottom of the page to continue to the request form.

TERMS OF USE OF BOOK/MEDIA RESERVE SERVICE:
  1. GENERAL TERMS OF COURSE RESERVES SERVICE

All materials will be placed on reserve at the request of faculty only for the noncommercial, educational use of students. Materials placed on Course Reserve will be made available for students and faculty only during semesters when the requesting instructor is teaching the course, and will be removed after the course is no longer in session.

  2. COMPLETING YOUR BOOK/MEDIA RESERVE REQUEST
    • MATERIALS OWNED BY THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES
      • Materials available at the same library as the requested reserve location: Although not required, bringing materials that are available on-shelf to the Course Reserves staff at your library is strongly encouraged:
        • Materials requested for reserve may be checked-out by users before Library staff have had an opportunity to retrieve them from the shelves. This is sometimes the case when reserve materials are listed on course syllabi that are provided to students on the first day of class. These materials must be recalled for reserve, and may not be available for two or more weeks.
        • Book/media reserve requests are processed in the order they are received. Due to the high volume of requests received at the beginning of each semester, requests accompanied by the materials requested are processed much more quickly than requests requiring our staff to retrieve materials from the shelves.
      • Materials available at another University Libraries location: Library staff will request materials from other locations. Processing time: approximately five days from request date.
      • Materials currently loaned to other users: Library staff will recall materials from current users. Processing time: approximately two weeks from request date.
    • MATERIALS NOT OWNED BY THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES
      • Personal copies: Please bring or mail materials to the Course Reserves staff at the requested location. Note: Personal copies of materials will be placed on Closed Reserve (room-use only).
      • Purchase requests: Library staff may agree to purchase materials requested for reserve that are not currently owned by the University Libraries. Processing time: we cannot estimate processing time for purchases. Purchase requests are placed on rush status and processed as soon as available from the vendor.
      • Coursepacks: For copyright reasons, Library staff must order a special copy of the coursepack printed on red paper. Processing times vary widely depending on the coursepack provider, and can take several weeks.
