Smith states, " … 'research' is probably one of the dirtiest words in the Indigenous world's vocabulary … it stirs up silence, it conjures up bad memories, it raises a smile that is knowing and distrustful." As a Ph.D. student, I couldn't do what I knew research to be: rooted in Western philosophy, objective, individualistic, and for the academy. This book introduced me to decolonizing methodologies that helped me become an Indigenous researcher and research in, with, and for the Indigenous community.
