Associate Professor of History
Book Title
First Fieldwork: Pacific Anthropology, 1960-1985
Book Description
My father, William H. Heaney, was an anthropologist who worked outside of academia. He raised me and my siblings to care about cultures different from our own, and to help when asked. We lost him at the height of the pandemic. I hope my own work in the history of ancestor-making, anthropology, and museums continues our conversations. This edited volume contains his last published essay, "Living Dead Birds," in which he reflects on his fieldwork and all that he hoped—and I know—that he passed on.
