Written by my graduate adviser, Gary Sandefur, and my academic inspiration, Sara McLanahan, this book provided sophisticated analyses of a growing social phenomenon that was widely viewed as the root of many U.S. social problems. The study showed how divorce lowered children's well-being and chances for success as a result of declining income, parental involvement, and access to community resources. Family life, economics, and community are interwined.
