I stumbled upon this novel while browsing the shelves of Manteo Booksellers on Roanoke Island, North Carolina. It has everything a reader could want. It follows the lives of two Jewish cousins before, during, and after World War II and takes the reader on a journey across the globe. It's a story of hope and tragedy, and no matter how many times I reread it, I always discover something new within its pages. As any great book should, it gives me comfort and inspiration.
