This science fiction novel cracked open doors I would only venture through decades later in my creative writing. I first read it as a teenager. Back then, I most enjoyed the many martial arts fights rendered by Perry. Now, I see how his book also inspired me to think about the incredible power of mythmaking, one of my preoccupations to this day.
