Rachel Carson’s observations sparked a movement toward more sustainable approaches for controlling pests in agriculture. However, Carson’s courage is the true inspiration. She took on the chemical industry while battling breast cancer, which would ultimately take her life two years after the book was published. I often think about her courage when tasks seem impossible to accomplish.
