Teaching and Learning

Our goal is to collaborate with faculty to support teaching your students the library research and information literacy skills they need to succeed academically. We show students, faculty, staff, and community members how to discover, evaluate, use, organize, and create information that supports curricular and lifelong learning.

To support this goal, we offer a number of activities that cover workshops, events, customized instruction, and e-learning and course support materials designed to foster Information literacy.

Information Literacy

Information literacy is a set of key skills in areas related to searching, evaluating, creating, and managing information. The University Libraries at Penn State have many experts who provide information literacy instruction to learners.

  • Develop a variety of instructional support options to aid student learning and application of key information literacy skills.
  • Provide a consistent knowledge and skill base to all students to prepare them to make critical information decisions during their academic careers, as well as in their personal and professional lives.
  • Cultivate critical "habits of mind" such as curiosity, empathy, inclusivity, intellectual growth and expansion, and creativity and discovery.
