DESCRIPTION

The Pennsylvania State University Libraries seeks applications and nominations for a Reference and Instruction Librarian at the Penn State Altoona campus for a tenure track faculty position. We seek a proactive and innovative librarian to provide general and specialized instruction and reference services. Major responsibilities include course-related instruction, in-person and virtual reference service (LibAnswers); development of print and web-based (LibGuides) research and instructional materials; consultation with faculty to support their research and course development; and participation in collection development with responsibility for building and maintaining collections across the curriculum. Some evening work may be required. Duties of this position include collaborating with colleagues at Penn State Altoona and across the University Libraries in planning, delivering, and evaluating information literacy instruction and reference services. This position requires an MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent); experience related to information literacy instruction, reference, and research support; strong knowledge of print and digital information resources; demonstrated commitment to a student-centered teaching philosophy; awareness of the needs of international students and diverse learner communities, excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively; and strong commitment to diversity, equity, respect and inclusion. Preferred qualifications include at least two years of post-MLS experience with relevant reference and instruction experience at an academic or research library; demonstrated experience with current technologies; strong knowledge of print and electronic information resources; demonstrated potential to achieve the requirements for tenure and promotion in the areas of librarianship, research, and service; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
