Abstract:
Eva Gore-Booth was an Irish poet, dramatist, and social activist. With her partner Esther Roper, Eva Gore-Booth worked for women's suffrage, peace, and Irish Independence. Gore-Booth was a lifelong friend of W.B. Yeats. Her sister, Constance Gore-Booth Markiewicz, was the first woman to be elected to the British House of Commons.
Abstract:
The Eva Gore Booth papers date from the time of her involvement with political and social movements surrounding the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin, World War I, and women's suffrage in England and Ireland. The collection includes her prose, poetry, sketches, and some photographs. Her drawings for children's books are the highlight of the collection.

Collection Overview

The Eva Gore Booth Collection dates from 1895-1930 and measures three cubic feet. The collection primarily consists of works authored by Eva Gore Booth during her involvement with various political and social movements surrounding the events of the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin, World War I, and women's suffrage in England and Ireland. The materials contain collated manuscripts and notebooks as well as various published prose and poetry writings of Eva Gore Booth. The collection also contains sketches and drawings by Eva Gore Booth in various media, most prominently, her drawings for children's books. Also included in the collection is correspondence to and from Eva Gore Booth, and correspondence collected by Esther Roper in memory of Eva Gore Booth. There are several photographs of Eva Gore Booth, her sister Constance Markiewicz, and various other subjects.
