Message from the Dean

A message from the Dean regarding University Libraries' reopening for the fall semester.

August 11, 2020

Welcome to a new academic year! We know many of you are eager to return to University Libraries spaces and resume using on-site resources and services. We are eager to see you as well, and I want to reassure you that we are finalizing plans and processes for reopening safely.

We plan to reopen Pattee Library and Paterno Library at University Park on August 24, 2020. Reopening timelines for our University Park branch libraries and Commonwealth Campus libraries are still being finalized; please check posted hours and specific location information for the latest updates. As we reopen, our spaces, hours of operation, service levels, and public access to certain areas will be restructured to promote health and safety and to adhere to state, local, and University guidelines. These factors may vary by location. We hope you will understand these necessary changes and limitations.

What will not change is our commitment to providing our users with the resources and services they need to succeed academically and in research activity. We will continue to provide an extensive array of remote resources and services including virtual consultations, webinars, and instruction sessions. While our stacks will remain closed to the public so that we can continue to provide access to our digitized titles without violating copyright restrictions, our print materials will be available via our new curbside pickup service at University Park and at a number of our Commonwealth Campus libraries. And our COVID-19 page will continue to post changes to library operations, so please check it for the latest information.

One thing remains constant during these remarkably different times: We are here for you, and we are eager to help you succeed in your scholarly pursuits.

Wishing you good health and a successful semester,

Dean Barbara I. Dewey
Dean of University Libraries and Scholarly Communications
