The Libraries’ Ask a Librarian service, offering live chat and email support, is also available.
These hours will be in effect through Friday, November 20 and are subject to change. Hours after November 20 will be posted when available.
You can easily request library materials online using our “I Want It” feature and we will even deliver them to your car.
After you receive notification that your materials are ready, you can just give us a call (814-949-5256) when you arrive on campus and we’ll bring them out to you. Curbside pickup is available from the Smith Parking Lot Turnaround Loop during the following hours: Monday – Friday: 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Spaces & Technology
The number of desktop computers in the library will be greatly reduced, due to social distancing. However, we will have 12 computer workstations. Please bring your own headphones or earbuds. There are also four Mac computers in the library, and one iMac available. We also have laptops available for check out.
Computer use is limited to students, faculty, and staff for Fall 2020. Students: You need to bring your own device to the areas set up on campus for participating in your Zoom classes. There are 18 seats available to reserve for Zoom Classes. Seats may be reserved for 2 hour time slots.
Textbooks that are part of our Course Reserves are available for checkout (for a 24-hour period) from the Service Desk in the library. Usage of print course reserves will be very limited in the fall semester, due to a mandated 96-hour quarantine in between checkouts.
Please let the library staff know if you are having difficulty finding the material you need for your class and we will investigate all options for you.
Reference and Instruction
Should you need help with research, Reference and Instruction Librarians Daniel Thacker (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Lori Lysiak (email@example.com) will be available via email or phone. Assistance via Zoom can also be arranged.
Ask a Librarian is a university-wide virtual research assistance service that offers live chat and email support.
Things may change during the course of Fall 2020, so we will update this page when necessary. Our hours and services will be limited during this time, but we will do everything possible to accommodate your needs.
Stacks are closed for browsing during the fall semester. Materials are available using the “I Want It” feature of the library’s online catalog. Due to a mandated 96-hour quarantine of print materials, not all items may be available right away.
Hathi Trust: 48% of the Penn State University Libraries print collection is currently available to Penn State students, faculty, and staff digitally through this Emergency Temporary Access Service.
Newspapers and Magazines
Our newspaper and magazine subscriptions have been suspended for the fall semester. Full text is available online through Penn State University Libraries for the following, and many more, periodicals: The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Bloomberg Businessweek, People, Sports Illustrated, and Time. Use NewsFinder to find online access for newspapers.
To find magazines and journals, choose the E-Journals tab in the FIND box on the Penn State University Libraries homepage.
One Button Studio
The One Button Studio will be available for limited use by one person at a time.
Zoom can function as a nice remote alternative to the One Button Studio. It can be used in either a synchronous class setting or students can record themselves and share the video after recording. Zoom recordings that students create can easily be turned in to Canvas or taken into a video editor for further refinement.
The furniture in the library has been rearranged to provide socially-distant quiet study spaces for students. Please refrain from moving chairs to other locations in the library.
In addition to the computer workstations, there are 70 seats available in the library. There are no Group Study rooms available during Fall 2020.
All Pennsylvania residents are eligible to apply for a Resident Borrowers card at any Penn State University Library, with proper ID (PA drivers license or state ID) with current address.
Plus, residents who register online through Penn State’s OneID account service can request items from any Penn State library, view account information, and renew materials online.
Request your books and DVDs (from any campus) online and after you’re notified they are ready for pickup, use our new curbside pickup or come in to the Service Desk.
Fall 2020 visitor access to the library is limited to the circulation desk area for picking up or returning items only. Thank you for your understanding as we reserve our limited library space for our students.
