You can’t have a great university without a great library
— Joe Paterno
We are…27 libraries serving 17,000 faculty and staff; 100,000 students; a teaching hospital that provides care to more than a million patients a year; over one-half million active alumni; and an online World Campus that empowers anyone to pursue an education.
Access and Affordability are central features of the University Libraries and a priority for Penn State. Access to textbooks and educational resources, however, is a barrier to providing access to the entire Penn State community.
Did you know?
The cost of textbooks has risen over 100% in the past four decades (3 times the general rate of inflation).
Over 63% of students have not purchased required textbooks, resulting in nearly 50% of students taking fewer courses.
45% of students do not register for specific courses because they do not have the financial means
The University Libraries has established the Textbook and Open Educational Resources initiative, which exists to provide textbooks for loan to every student who needs one, or to provide low-cost or free electronic resources where they are needed.
Would you like to help students afford the textbooks that help them succeed at Penn State? Help us close the gap!
