Barbara I. Dewey
Dean of University Libraries
and Scholarly Communication

Prior to coming to Penn State, Dean Dewey was the dean of Libraries at the University of Tennessee, a position she had held since 2000. Previously, she served at the University of Iowa from 1987 to 2000 as assistant to the dean of libraries, director of administrative and access services, director of information and research services and interim university librarian, respectively. Prior to that she also was Indiana University's director of admissions and placement in the School of Library and Information Science from 1980 to 1987, and assistant interlibrary loan and reference librarian at Northwestern University from 1978 to 1980. Dewey servies as chair of Transforming Research Libraries Steering Committee and the Association of College and Research Libraries Publications Committee. She is in her final year on the Online Computer Library Center Global Council and is a member of the International Federation of Library Associations Standing Committee on Education and Training. 

 
Bob Darrah

Director of Development

Bob has a fifteen-year career in development and has been with Penn State for four and a half of those years. He began in the College of Arts and Architecture as an Associate Director of Development, and later he served as Interim Director of Development from 2010 to 2012. After a brief time away from Penn State, he returned as Director of Major Gifts in the College of the Liberal Arts in 2015. Bob also worked as Director of Development for the School of Music and Dance at the University of Oregon and occupied positions in membership and development at other institutions. Bob holds a B.A. in classics from the University of Oregon and is near completion of a post-baccalaureate certificate in ancient languages at Penn State.

 

Susanna Cronin
Associate Director of Development

Susanna Cronin has a background in federal government operations, political campaign management and fundraising. Most recently, Susanna managed a U.S. Congressional race in Texas's 7th Congressional District, located in the heart of Houston, Texas. Her other experience includes nearly six years with U.S. Senator Ted Cruz's Austin Regional office, Ted Cruz for Senate campaign, Florida Trail Association-U.S. Forest Service, and various local and state races. Susanna is an alumna of Florida State (M.S.P. 2011) and the University of Florida (B.A. 2008, with Honors). She enjoys gardening, cooking Texas fare, reading national security thrillers, and spending time with her husband Michael, who is a PSU alumnus (B.S. 2011) and currently a full-time Ph.D. student in Energy & Mineral Engineering.

 

Lisa Vandetty
Assistant Director of Development

Lisa joined the University Libraries in July 2016 as the Assistant Director of Development and Alumni Relations. In her role, Lisa will be working with alumni and friends of Penn State to raise philanthropic support and increase volunteer engagement within the University Libraries. Her focus is in Philadelphia, central and southern New Jersey, North and South Carolina, New England, Illinois, Wisconsin, Texas and Southern California. Originally from Havertown, Pennsylvania, Lisa graduated from Penn State in May of 2016 with a B.A. in international politics and a minor in global security and economics. She previously interned with the College of Health and Human Development, the University Libraries and the Eberly College of Science in their Development and Alumni Relations teams. Lisa resides in Bellefonte, PA and enjoys hiking, attending Penn State athletic events, and traveling.

 

Karen McCulley
Alumni Relations
and Stewardship Officer

Karen started her career with Penn State in development at Penn State Public Broadcasting in 1989.  Much of her career has been intertwined with development.  She has been with the University Libraries for nearly 10 years.  Karen is a Bellefonte native and holds an associate degree from South Hills Business School. Karen volunteers as Chair of the Board of Directors for the House of Care, a non-profit personal-care home in State College. The House of Care provides care and support to persons of low income, with little or no family support, and challenged by life-threatening and terminal illness.  Her hobbies include cake decorating, baking and cooking.  Her favorite pastime is spending quality time with her family and grandchildren.

 

Sarah Bacon
Administrative Support Coordinator

With a Penn State heritage that goes back to when her grandfather graduated in 1916, Sarah has strong family ties to Nittany Valley and is thrilled to be back in the area. A third generation Penn State graduate, she completed her B.S. in hotel, restaurant, and institutional management in 2001. Since then, courtesy of the Army, Sarah has moved 10 times and lived in 5 states. She has over 14 years of management experience working in restaurants, call centers, and through her own business. Sarah is passionate about customer service and collaboration, and will leverage her diverse work history and strong sense of community at University Libraries. Outside of work, she skates with the local roller derby team, enjoys being outdoors as much as possible, and looks forward to putting down roots with her family in Centre County.
