Opened in January 2012, The Tombros McWhirter Knowledge Commons houses a suite of group study rooms in West Pattee Library (Rooms W120 – W128). Rooms include whiteboards as well as large screen displays for wireless projection via Penn State’s Solstice application.
Students can make a reservation for any of these spaces; an email confirmation for the reservation is required.
Penn State Information Technology provides the services offered at the Mary O’Neill March Help Center located in the Knowledge Commons. IT Lab Consultants are available to assist with any problems with computers and printers in this area. At the IT Service Desk, peer consultants are trained to assist users with their personal devices. Hours and contact information are available on the Get Support website.
Specialists in the Media Commons and Maker Commons engage users to create audio and video recordings, and 3D objects. Visit their websites for hours, to reserve an editing room, or to schedule an appointment.
Due to the success of the Knowledge Commons, renovations in 2019 expanded the lower level of Pattee Library to offer additional space and services. The Collaboration Commons – created with “bring your own device” in mind - offers ample, open seating adjacent to the Dr. Kieko Miwa Ross Garden Terrace. The Collaboration Commons also features group study rooms (W024 – W039) that students can reserve.
Also housed in the Collaboration Commons is the Center for Immersive Experiences, a spaced dedicated to augmented reality, virtual reality, 360-degree video, and other immersive technology.
