The Knowledge Commons staff assist users in developing foundational knowledge and skills to optimize their use of library resources and services. Our Welcome Desk attendants assist users in locating material in our collections; direct users to quiet, as well as collaborative spaces; manage group study rooms; and inform visitors of the variety of library services and resources available to them. Our Peer Research Consultants, in The Search Bar, educate students, primarily undergraduates, on library resources and services that will support them in their academic pursuits.
The Knowledge Commons also has established partnerships with other academic support units to assist students in their academic endeavors. The Search Bar includes Writing Tutors and Tech Tutors, working alongside the Peer Research Consultants. The two computer labs in the Knowledge Commons have ITS Lab Consultants ready to provide technical assistance. The IT Service Desk Consultants troubleshoot issues users may have with their personal electronic devices. And, Multimedia Specialists engage users in creating audio recordings, video recordings, and 3D objects in the Media Commons and Maker Commons.
Hours vary by services (check their web site for availability). During the academic year, the space is available 24 hours per day, most days of the week.
