This is Phil’s first mid-century modern house.  It was designed in 1941 for Mr. and Mrs. William Moorhouse of Lancaster, PA. In it, Phil perfected his design for radiant heating, later used by other local architects as well as his Penn State students.

When he and his wife Kitty later journeyed to Spring Green, WS to meet the great Frank Lloyd Wright, Phil presented this design. Wright immediately asked, “When are you and Kitty going to join my fellowship?”

World War II was looming on the horizon and Phil’s stint in the Navy interrupted his architectural career until 1947. At that time the Hallocks relocated to State College and Phil began his dual careers as practitioner and professor.
