Dr. Ruth M. Freyberger Collection

Ruth FreybergerRuth M. Freyberger was awarded the first Penn State art educational doctorate for her study of “Differences in the Creative Drawings of Children of Varying Ethnic and Socio-Economic Backrgounds in Pennsylvania.”  The collection houses her doctoral stole, awards and art exhibit documents, journals, monographs, and photographs, plus postcard collections from her trip to Portugal and Spain in 1988.  Also included are materials relating to the schoolhouse relocated and preserved in honor of her sister Grace Arline Freyberger.  Several of Dr. Freyberger's paintings are on display in the Thun Library.  

 

 

SchoolhouseBuilt by Jacob Stienin the 1830's the school was moved to the Kutztown University campus in 1991 as a tribute to Ruth Freyberger's sister Grace and "to the people like herself who were teaching in one-room schools."
