Assistant Dean for Technical and Collections Services, September 2005 –
Major responsibilities include administration of serials and acquisitions, cataloging and metadata, information technology, electronic resources licensing, and budget oversight for a collections budget of $17 million. Staff includes 13 librarians (tenure-track faculty), 62 classified staff, and 12 wage staff, including three department heads who are direct reports. Responsible for the successful planning, organization, policy development, implementation, and direction of all aspects of these areas. Member of the Dean’s administrative team. Overall responsibilities include developing strategic directions in collaboration with associate and assistant deans, department heads, subject specialists, and campus librarians throughout the library system; fostering effective working relationships with library and academic colleagues; enhancing and assessing service quality and operational efficiency; and playing a leadership role in library-wide planning initiatives. Represents the Libraries in a wide range of consortia and partnerships at the state, regional, and national levels.

Represents Technical Services on the Library Administrative Council. Responsible for holding regular meetings of the division, seeking advice and consent from the division in matters affecting the division, coordinating the activities of the division, assuring the implementation of general library policies and procedures, and reporting regularly on the activities of the division.
Head of Acquisitions and Associate Professor of Library Administration, August 2003 – August 2005
Administers the Acquisitions Department that is responsible for ordering, claiming, receiving and approving payment for $13,000,000 worth of library materials in all formats. Establishes and implements acquisitions policies and procedures, monitors expenditures, and serves as the library liaison with vendors. Is an active member of the Collection Development Committee. Oversees acquisitions and serials system migration and the use of the acquisitions module in the integrated library system. Assists departmental librarians in fund management and oversees and coordinates several approval plans and blanket orders. The department consists of two other faculty members, eighteen support staff, two graduate assistants, and several student employees.

Responsible for the management of the Acquisitions and Binding Department and its staff members. Acquisitions orders, receives, claims, and approves payment of eight million dollars annually. The binding budget averages $292,000 annually.
Assistant Acquisitions and Binding Librarian and Assistant Professor of Library Administration, November 1996 – August 1997
Responsible for the day to day management of the Acquisitions and Binding Department and its thirty staff members. Acquisitions orders, receives, claims, and approves payment of $7.5 million annually. The binding budget averages $250,000 annually. Librarians are expected to fulfill all the requirements of promotion and tenure.

Head of Acquisitions, January 1996 – November 1996
Administratively responsible for the Acquisitions Department including ordering, receipt, claiming and payment of monographs, serials, and electronic resources. Acquisitions staff also provide reference assistance to patrons using the Current Periodicals Room. Coordinated activities of and set priorities for the department. Led, coached and trained a staff of 10 FTE and was responsible for the management of the $2,400,000 materials and access budget. Negotiated license agreements with database vendors. Member of the Management Advisory Council, advisory body to the University Librarian.
Acquisitions Team Leader, April 1994 – December 1995
Responsible for the management of the Acquisitions Team in the Collection and Networked Information Services Department including ordering, receipt, payment, and claiming of all monographs and serials, and staff and service in the Current Periodicals Room. Coordinated the activities of and helped set priorities for the Acquisitions team; managed 10.5 FTE staff and a $2,300,000 materials and access budget.
Acting Head of Bibliographic Control, June 1995 – September 1995
Responsible for the management of the Bibliographic Control Department. Oversaw the receipt of government documents, bindery, materials processing and the monitoring of the cataloging contract.
Assistant Head of Acquisitions, February 1993 – March 1994
Responsible for the daily supervision of the Acquisitions Department. Oversaw the order, receipt and claiming of incoming library materials and the staffing and service of the Current Periodicals room. Assisted in the management of the materials and access budget.

The mission of Leadership Centre County is to increase the community leadership pool by creating a support network for present and future leaders, to encourage increased participation for leadership in civic service, and to educate potential leaders on community issues, opportunities, and needs.
ARL Research Library Leadership Fellow, 2004-2006.
The program was designed in response to the increasing demands for succession planning at America’s very large research libraries.

Given by the Association of Library Collections and Technical Services to recognize the “contribution to those areas of librarianship included in library collections and technical services by a librarian with not more than ten years of professional experience who has shown outstanding promise for continuing contribution and leadership.”
